Another beekeeper is planning to visit me and see my beehive on the roof of Agriculture Building #1 at the Hakozaki Campus of Kyushu University. The department chairman, Professor Osamu Tadauchi, received a call from him and he wants to visit on Thursday. I told him 11:00 a.m. would be a good time, so he plans to come then. I hear that he is a new beekeeper and has three hives of Japanese honey bees on the roof of a 12 story office building near the Kyushu University Medical School Campus. That is a couple of subway stops down the line from where mine is located. I will be interested to hear where and how he got his bees because Japanese honey bees are not easy to come by. Last year when I was visiting Tsushima Island (between Japan and Korea) a beekeeper told me that a hive of bees had recently been sold there to someone from Tokyo for over $600. By the way, the access door to the roof of the building where I keep my bees has a warning sign on it and is always locked unless someone who is authorized and has a key needs to open it. This visit may be the beginning of a local beekeeping club for Japanese honey bees. Who knows?
